Overview

Founded in 1997 by Pete Bock, the Coastal Plain League (CPL) is a premier wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league featuring top college players from across the US. Named after the historic Class D Coastal Plain League (1937-1952), it is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company since 2022. The league spans Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia with 15 teams divided into East and West divisions. It features a 48-game regular season from late May to early August, without a split-season format for 2025, allowing flexibility for make-up games. Playoffs involve six teams in a new format, plus an annual Pro Scout Day and All-Star Game (hosted by Macon Bacon in 2025 on July 6-7). The CPL emphasizes professional-like atmospheres, family-friendly entertainment, player development, and community involvement, with over 1,800 drafted alumni and 194 MLB players (e.g., Justin Verlander, Ryan Zimmerman, Chris Taylor). It is sanctioned by MLB and focuses on returning players improved to their colleges.
